Editorial Policy

How we source, verify, date and update every page — and how we handle corrections and the limits of our guidance.

HomeGuides › Editorial Policy

EPF decisions affect your money and your retirement. That's why every page on this site is built to a standard: sourced to official EPFO material, dated, and corrected when things change. This page explains exactly how we work — so you can judge whether to trust what you read here.

The short version: we cite official EPFO sources, we date our claims, we distinguish rules from opinion, we fix errors openly, and we tell you plainly when something needs a professional rather than a website.

Who We Are — and Aren't

EPFO.app is an independent informational resource. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation or any government body. We don't process claims, hold your data, or act on your account. Our job is to explain EPFO's rules and processes in plain language and point you to the official portal to actually do things.

Always the official site for actions: to activate a UAN, file a claim, or check a balance, use the official EPFO portal at epfindia.gov.in or the UMANG app. We link there throughout precisely because that's where the real transactions happen.

Where Our Information Comes From

In order of priority, we rely on:

  1. Official EPFO circulars & notificationsThe primary source. Published on the EPFO circulars index. We link to the original PDF wherever a rule depends on one.
  2. Government press releases (PIB)For CBT decisions like the annual interest rate and scheme amendments, we use the Press Information Bureau and EPFO's own statements.
  3. The EPFO member portal & UMANGFor step-by-step processes, we describe the actual current screens and flows.
  4. Statutory textThe EPF & MP Act 1952 and the three schemes (EPF, EPS, EDLI) for the underlying legal position.

Where sources genuinely conflict — and on some topics, like the exact EDLI formula, they do — we say so openly and present the differing versions rather than pretending there's one clean answer.

How We Verify a Page Before Publishing

How We Keep Pages Current

EPFO changes rules regularly — activation moved to Face Authentication, Forms 15G/15H became Form 121, EDLI limits were revised. We monitor the official circulars index and PIB, and update affected pages when a change lands. Our Latest EPFO Circulars & Updates page is the running log of what's changed and when.

Spotted something out of date or wrong? Tell us via our contact page. We take corrections seriously and fix confirmed errors promptly — accuracy matters more to us than being right the first time.

Money & Legal Matters: Our Limits

This is general information, not personalised advice. EPF touches tax, and tax depends on your full financial picture — which a website can't see. For decisions with real consequences (a large withdrawal, a higher-pension election, a TDS question), we tell you plainly to consult a qualified chartered accountant, financial advisor, or your EPFO regional office. We'd rather send you to the right expert than have you act on a generic page.

Advertising & Independence

This site may display advertising to cover its costs. Ads are kept separate from editorial content: advertisers do not influence what we write, how we explain a rule, or which official source we cite. Our guidance follows the official EPFO position, not any commercial interest.
